Residencies Impacting Schoolwide Equity

Through a rigorous, five-year evaluation, Basis is providing formative feedback to help South Carolina achieve their goals, shaping student academic outcomes and teacher retention strategies.

Why our Evaluation Matters

What's Next?

Basis is providing ongoing formative feedback to SC RISE participants through exploratory analyses, assessments of implementation, and progress towards objectives. Over five years, we’ll:

  • Use a matched comparison quasi-experimental design (QED)
  • Design program events, training, and classroom attendance logs for residents and mentors
  • Conduct focus groups with residents and mentors to understand real needs and design real strategies

The Importance of Sustainable Residencies

Teacher retention strategies are the backbone to systems that work, especially for underserved communities and disadvantaged students. By pairing mentors with residents, SC RISE is preparing the next generation of teachers by instilling invaluable experience and confidence.

With $6 million granted by the U.S. Department of Education’s Education Innovation and Research (EIR) Program, South Carolina is in a unique position to create a roadmap for real change.
