Wit and Wisdom Evaluation

Why it Matters

Adopting a new literacy curriculum is a major investment, and districts need to know whether its being used as intended or actively improving student learning. Basis’ work is essential in understanding whether Wit & Wisdom is being implemented in a way that delivers on its promise of more equitable access to high-quality literacy instruction.

What Evaluation Looks Like

With Metro Nashville Public Schools, Basis put a new literacy model to the test in real classrooms by

  • drawing on existing quantitative and qualitative data.
  • conducting new focus groups and surveys with teachers, coaches, and research staff.
  • examining fidelity of implementation, including changes in teacher practice and use of curriculum materials.
  • providing evidence on how the curriculum is working in practice and where additional support may be needed.
  • assessing early impacts on student learning tied to Wit & Wisdom.
