Learning is impossible if mental health challenges, basic needs, and family challenges go unaddressed. Increasing and better training Licensed Master Social Workers (LMSWs) and counselors gives every student access to expert support that improves attendance, behavior, and academic success, creating healthier, more resilient communities.
Understanding Impact
In 2023, the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) was awarded a Mental Health Services Professional Demonstration (MHSPD) grant. Basis strategized the best way to maximize grant money and accomplish three goals:
- expand internship opportunities at SAISD elementary and academies.
- expand support services for LMSW & Counselor interns to ensure successful completion of university requirements and licensure exams.
- increase the number of LMSW & Counselor full-time employees supporting SAISD.
